Perimeter and Area

Perimeter:

Formula:

- The perimeter is the sum of all the side lengths of a polygon

- MUST add all sides together and make sure you convert them all to the same units

Example: What is the perimeter of this square?

*all sides of a square have equal length

12in + 12in + 12in + 12in = 48in

12 in

Area:

o Multiply side lengths together to determine how much space is enclosed within shape

o ALWAYS is in squared units (ex- in^2, sqft)

Formulas:

***L represents length, W represents width, H represents height, B represents base***

        - Quadrilaterals-  A = L x W

        - Circles-  A = πr^2

        - Triangles-  A = (1/2) x B x H
